Cutouts and Behind you

Put words and pictures behind the speaker.

Put text or a picture behind you

Right-click a text, graphic or card on the timeline and choose Put behind you. Yapp Studio cuts you out of your video and moves the item to a track under you.

Behind you is a place on the timeline: anything on a track under the Cutout of you track shows behind you. The cutout is made on your Mac, with no account or credits, the first time you need it.

  1. Right-click the item’s bar on the timeline and choose Put behind you. Or select the item and choose Put behind you under Where it is in the right panel.
  2. With no cutout yet, it says Makes a cutout first. Yapp Studio removes the background, adding the Cutout of you track over the main track, then moves the item to a track under it.
  3. While your Mac works, the cutout’s bar says Removing background… with a percentage. The preview draws the item in front until it is ready, then updates by itself.

To bring it back, choose Bring in front of you in the same places. You can also drag a bar, or a whole track, below the Cutout of you track.

Hook title, 3D text, Strike-through and Magazine cover start behind you. A Full screen card behind you becomes a new background.

Put the title behind me.

Your agent makes the cutout first when there is none, and checks the edge on frames.

Remove background: the Cutout of you track

Right-click a clip and choose Remove background. Yapp Studio cuts you out on your Mac, onto a Cutout of you track over the main track. Anything on a track under it is behind you.

The Cutout of you track holds a copy of your video with the background removed, drawn exactly over the main track. On its own it changes nothing you can see. What sits on a track under it shows behind you; what sits on a track over it shows in front.

  1. Right-click a clip on the main track and choose Remove background. Or choose it under Background on the clip’s page, or in the main track’s menu.
  2. The Cutout of you track appears straight over the main track, with a cutout over the whole reel, and a note says Made a cutout of you. Anything on a track under it is behind you.
  3. While your Mac works, the cutout’s bar says Removing background… with a percentage. If it could not be done, it says Not removed, with Retry.

Put things behind you

Drag a bar, or a whole track by its name, below the Cutout of you track, or use Put behind you. A filter or effect on a track under it changes the room but not you.

Change the cutout

  • Click its bar for Cutout settings: edge, outline, background and place.
  • Drag its ends to cut you out for only part of the reel. Remove background on a clip it does not reach stretches it over that clip; where it covers the clip already, it says Already made.
  • Hide the track with its eye to see your video uncut. What is under it then shows over your video.
